(Throwback to the best 3 weeks of 2025)
From the dry savanna into greener, wetter regions. At Lake Naivasha I enjoyed a boat safari and a walking safari on Crescent Island – wildlife up close and on foot. Next, a biking safari through Hell’s Gate National Park (@hellsgatenational), surrounded by antelopes, zebras, giraffes and adorable rock hyraxes.
So many ways to experience Africa!

Wildlife at Lake Nakuru 🌊🦩
After days in the dry savanna, arriving at @lakenakurunationalpark felt like stepping into another world.
Among the acacia forests we found white rhinos, while the lakeshore was alive with countless pelicans and the rare flamingos – sadly now only few remain.
Climate change is raising the lake’s water level, reducing its salinity and pushing these iconic birds away.
Still, such a breathtaking place to experience!

Today’s highlight: a leopard resting high in an acacia tree, feeding on its gazelle kill – such a rare and powerful sight. 🐆🌳
We also watched an elephant family moving peacefully through the golden savanna grass. 🐘
Later, we visited a Maasai village and a local school – an unforgettable opportunity to connect with this unique culture and way of life. Asante sana!🙏

Touched down on the dusty airstrip and went straight into our first game drive – what a start! Lions, giraffes, hippos, countless zebras & wildebeest, and vultures feasting on the remains of a cheetah hunt… nature at its rawest.
Asante sana – it was incredible! Two more days of game drives here before we move to Lake Nakuru.

This little beauty — a wall lizard | Mauereidechse — was sunbathing right outside my front door on a gravel path. I couldn’t resist grabbing my camera and trying to capture this little fellow. Glad that it turned to look straight at me before it disappeared in the bushes.
Along with the emerald lizard, it’s one of the highlight species you might spot on my guided forest tours. These agile reptiles are true sun-lovers and a joy to observe in their natural habitat.

Spotted this stunning fallow deer | Damhirsch during a safari drive in Doñana National Park, Spain.
It was the first time I’ve ever seen this – in my opinion – most beautiful deer species in the wild. Unfortunately, I noticed him a bit late and couldn’t capture a "better" pose… but still, what a moment!

This Long-eared Owl allowed a brief but breathtaking moment amidst falling snow.
Captured with my Canon R7 – the feather detail is incredible!
Even though my Sigma 150-600mm tele lens isn’t officially compatible, the eye tracking works surprisingly well and noticeably improved my keeper rate, despite occasional autofocus hiccups.
A rewarding shot from a cold and silent winter day.

This Pacific Swallow | Tahitischwalbe may be an everyday sight along the Kinabatangan River in Borneo, but for me, it was a true highlight.
I photographed it from a small boat – and as always, river cruises delivered!

Funny how what’s ordinary for locals can feel like magic to a visitor.
Makes me wonder: which birds do tourists find fascinating in my home... rarity is often just a matter of perspective!

Tiny life in the heat 🐣 - Just a few centimeters tall, this freshly hatched Kentish plover chick was braving the burning sun of a dried-out salt lagoon in Portugal.
The heat haze made photography almost impossible – but the moment of lying there, eye-level in the cracked salt flats, watching this fragile yet camouflaged creature take its first steps, was unforgettable.
Sometimes, it's not about the perfect shot – it's about the story behind it!

A family of Long-Tailed Macaques | Javaneraffen grooming each other along the banks of the Kinabatangan River in Borneo.
I watched them from a small boat at dusk—always alert, as crocodiles start to stir around this time.
It was incredible to witness such natural behavior up close.
Grooming isn’t just about hygiene — it’s a powerful act of social bonding, trust, and connection within the troop. Moments like this remind me how rich and complex wildlife interactions truly are!

SPRING TIME! 🌤 Great tit | Kohlmeise peeking out from the @vivara.de nest box under my carport - photographed last spring. This year, they’ve returned—flying in and out, busy preparing a new nest again.
It’s such a joy to witness this little piece of nature right outside my doorstep.
Between working at my desk, I love taking short breaks to watch them flutter back and forth, bringing food for their future chicks.
Spring really is full of life.
